Mark Riley

Brownstown CUSD #201 is proud to announce the hiring of Mark Riley as our new Principal for the 2026–2027 school year. The Board of Education officially affirmed his appointment at its meeting this week.

Mr. Riley brings nearly 20 years of experience in education, including extensive leadership at both the building and district levels. He is currently serving as Assistant Principal at O’Fallon C.U.S.D. #90, where he oversees discipline, attendance, teacher evaluations, curriculum, MAP testing, and extracurricular supervision.

Previously, Mr. Riley served as Principal at Trico C.U.S.D. #176 from 2018 to 2021. In that role, he led instructional programming, school improvement initiatives, PERA implementation, PBIS and RTI systems, state assessments, and overall school operations. He also served as Assistant Principal at Sparta C.U.S.D. #140, where he supported discipline, truancy intervention, staff evaluations, and curriculum development.

Mr. Riley began his career as a Social Studies teacher at Elverado C.U.S.D. #196, teaching multiple courses while serving on RTI and school improvement teams, sponsoring student activities, coaching, and participating in union leadership and negotiations.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from Eastern Illinois University and his Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
