"We Choose Health" Update

After three weeks of the "We Choose Health" walk we have several pieces of information to share.

I attribute wonderful weather for the terrific turnout of 58 people on the
track Sept. 8.  Sept. 15 brought us some late afternoon rains and 35
staff, students, parents and faculty walked in the gym as we cranked
up Pandora Tween radio.  It has been unofficially determined that
when we hear 'Cupid Shuffle', anyone who is interested can go to the
middle of the Gym and go "to the right, to the right, to the right" and
work on their cardio with a few dance moves!  Our third walk, held Sept. 22 brought

49 walkers  (and a few runners) to the track.  It was a beautiful day and felt good to stretch

the legs and unwind the mind after a day of school

To date, $58.00 has been collected for the Back Pack Program within
the BCUSD #201. No one EVER has to pay to walk, but, any donations
received in Sept./Oct. will benefit the Pack Back Program.
Donations received in November and December will be given to our
local VFW for their new building expenses.

Thinking of the VFW, brings to mind their "Gut Check" fund raising
activity held this past weekend.  I was very pleased to see the
community support for our Veteran's and delighted to see many former
students participate in both the 6 mile and 9 mile run/walk. I was so
very proud to see current students Seth Powell and Mannie Grames (HS)

and Nathan Grull (5th grade) participate and do extremely well! An additional

post on the school webpage has a few pictures from the event.

We Choose Health Community Walk (Run?) are very low key.  You
determine your pace and the length of your walk.  We do ask that you
walk for at least 20 minutes to register for monthly prizes with the first drawing to

be held next Monday, Sept. 29. Everyone 5th grade and above who registers for the monthly prizes are
automatically entered for the end of the year drawing of 2 adult

On behalf of the We Choose Health committee (Mrs. Reeter, Mrs.
Larsen, Karen Portz and myself), we hope you can join us to Monday September 29th on the track.
It should be a wonderful weather day!
