The school year is winding down, and so are the opportunities to register for the adult male and female bicycles! Mrs. Angela Reeter, BES Principal, will host the BES end of the year “wrap up” on Thursday, May 21st at 9 a.m. in the high school gym. In addition to announcing the special awards won by the students and the viewing of the 2014-2015 video, the drawing for the bikes will also be held. The final opportunities for 5th grade students through adults to register for the bikes will be on Monday, May 11th and Monday, May 18th.
Following the BES Awards, all students and guests are invited to walk the track one final time. Mrs. Reeter will announce the time frame for walking at the end of the BES Awards. Weather permitting, I think we will walk at least 10 to 15 minutes.
Any donations collected during the month of May for the We Choose Health Walk will be donated to our local EMS first responders. No one ever has to donate to walk, but if you would like to contribute, a container will be available.
Donations collected during the year have benefited the following organizations: Brownstown Back Pack Program ($102.50), VFW Post #9770 ($76), American Diabetes Association ($25), The Epilepsy Foundation ($100 donation from The Zone in Effingham), and the Brownstown Golden Years Club- Building fund ($52).
During our 27 weeks of walking as of May 8th, we have had 548 people register! Since the middle of November the faces were all familiar and were known as the “regulars”. New faces are welcome. On behalf of the We Choose Health Community Walk committee (Karen Portz, Mrs. Reeter, Mrs. Larsen, and Ms. Stine), I hope you can join us May 11th and 18th between 3:30-4:30 and on May 21st following the BES Awards presentation.
