At the District 12 banquet, twenty participants were recognized for winning their hometown VFW Posts. Addison Cage was the Brownstown VFW Post 9770 winner of the Voice of Democracy essay. The essay topic was My Vision for America. At the banquet each participant was recognized and received a certificate from the head of the Alton Post. Congratulations to Addison Cage on your achievement!

Another congratulations goes out to Brownstown Jr. High Patriot's Pen essay winner, Jacob Baron. Jacob was also recognized at the District 12 Veterans of Foreign Wars event on Saturday, January 9. Mr. Travis Redden and Ms. Tracey Alstat, Junior High and High School English teachers, work with the students in the classroom for these essay contests each year. They help with brainstorming ideas, as well as editing and revising the papers. We would like to thank these teachers for their hard work and dedication to these students and allowing them to participate in these contests.
