On monday, November 20, 2017 P.B.I.S held an assembly in the Brownstown High School gym. At 1:30 p.m all High School and Junior High students of Brownstown met in the gym. The speaker’s name was Kirk Smalley. He was the father of Ty Smalley, who took his own life at age 11,  in 2010. It all started after being suspended from school for retaliating against a bully that had bullied him for two years. Kirk and his wife Laura travel around to different schools talking to kids about their experience dealing with the loss of their son and showing that bullying is not the answer.

Stand For The Silent was started by a group of high school kids in Oklahoma. They now have their own website, facebook page, shirts, and other accessories with their logo on it. At the assembly they showed pictures of a few different people from all over that have taken their life from being bullied. The students learned a lot, for example 1 in every 4 kids have a plan of how they might end their lives before they get out of High School because of bullying.  And that every 7 seconds a kid somewhere is getting bullied. We learned that us students have a very powerful impact on our peers. It is up to us to end bullying in schools and Stand For The Silent. Kirk Smalley had an emotional effect on almost everyone in the gym, it's an assembly no one will forget.
