As most of you know Mrs. Hardiek is the school guidance counselor at Brownstown Jr./Sr. High School. Many students rely on her when in an emotional state of need, but she does much more for the student body than just handle the crises that arise at the school. Besides scheduling classes and schedules for the entire school she also helps prepare students for the future that lays ahead of them by publishing monthly guidance notes and routinely checking into classes at every grade level to assist with future planning, whether it be career papers or scholarship opportunities.

Mrs. Hardiek grew up in and attended Teutopolis High School, then moved on to Eastern Illinois University where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Business Education. She also went to Indiana University to finish her master’s in School Counseling. She recently just finished her second master’s in Educational Leadership.  Her education and experience makes her a major asset for students and faculty at BHS. Mr. Redden said, “It is great to have Mrs. Hardiek come into my classroom to assist with career research papers annually, which align with a career field trip she plans to accompany the research. She really does an amazing job.”

Brownstown High School has had the pleasure of having her for seventeen years. She says she offers “A variety of services such as college and career counseling, crisis intervention, individual counseling, and  classroom guidance activities on several topics. Topics include setting goals, bullying, the dangers of the internet, and issues in social media.”

Students of different age levels should be asking her different questions. She said,  “My seniors should be asking for help with scholarships. Juniors might have some ACT questions. The freshman and sophomores might need clarification on credits and assistance in exploring careers.”  Do not let this valuable resource go unnoticed. If you need assistance in any of these areas please contact Mrs. Hardiek and start thinking about your future.
