Has everyone met our new teacher? If not Ms. McCown is not going to bite, so head up and introduce yourself! Brownstown is a new area for her but she is becoming more familiar as the days go by. Her career in the mathematics field all started when she was enrolled at Casey-Westfield High School. During her senior year one impressive calculus instructor lead her into the field of math. From there she then attended Indiana State University to fulfill her dream of becoming a high school educator.
In school Ms. McCown was a “shy and reserved” student. She had perfect attendance in not only high school but college as well, where she obtained a steady grade point average in all her classes. American History and Current World Issues were the go-to classes in high school that happened to be taught by our very own Mr. Shackelford! Aside from her classes, Ms. McCown participated in various extracurriculars such as volleyball, drama club, Spanish Club (where she was President her senior year) and National Honors Society, just to name a few. In college she was also a part of Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Fraternity, Honors Program Graduate, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and many more.Ms. McCown began her career by student teaching at Martinsville, IL and Terre Haute, IN but Brownstown is her first stint as a full-time teacher. She chose Brownstown Jr./Sr. High School for its rural location that reminds her of home. “I choose to be a teacher because I really looked up to my teachers in elementary school. I saw them as role models and really could see myself being one of them one day.” Always remember this, because she became a teacher for you!
