I Pledge My Head, Heart, Hands, and Health

The four H's are represented by the Head, Hands, Heart, and Health of all 4-H members. To honor these four principles we recite the 4-H pledge "I pledge my Head to clearer thinking, my Heart to greater loyalty, my Hands to larger service, and my Health to better living, for my club, my community, my country, and my world". Members are expected to uphold this pledge in their everyday life. Every 4-H club is run by the parliamentary procedure system and is made up of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Reporter, and Treasurer. This board and all members serve as mentors to the younger and encourage them to follow the pledge and values of 4-H.

4-H is a way for children to use their knowledge of animals and gain leadership skills. Joining a 4-H club can be a fun and challenging experience. Children have to feed and water their animals and take records on how much time and money they spend with them. From September to August, 4-H members must keep accurate and neat records, join a community 4-H club no later than March, and attend four meetings to show their commitment before the final show at the Fayette County Fair. To enroll your child in the fair you have to complete the previously mentioned as well as sign your child up through the Illinois Extension Office that is located in Vandalia. There are also a multitude of parties and fun days were the club can relax and enjoy a day out together such as the annual Christmas and Summer parties.

The South Side Kids is only one of the many 4-H community clubs that a child from the ages of eight to eighteen can join. As the President of this club I can assure you that there is fun activities played, regular scheduled meetings, fund raisers for everyone, and much more. Every third Monday of the month there is a meeting at 6:00 pm at the Brownstown Baptist Church. There is also contact information that will direct you to our club’s groups advisor, and we all look forward to meeting you soon!
