On April 12, 2018, in Altamont, 10 students from Brownstown had the chance to go to the Envirothon at Ballard Nature Center.   The students that went were split into 2 teams of 5. Bradley Schwarm, Joel Bloemker, Lane Himes, Brittney Wuehler, and Makenzie Walk were on team 1. Team 2 were Nick Rosborough, Madi Barker, Natalie Oberlink, Caleb Atwood, and Cassi Payne.

When the students arrived at the Envirothon, they were able to look around in the visitor center before it started.  After a few minutes of looking around, they started the Envirothon. There were five categories; aquatics, forestry, soils, wildlife, and western rangeland management.  The highest overall scoring team was Vandalia-FFA. They had a total score of 366. Brownstown Team 1 had a total score of 314, and Brownstown Team 2 had a total score of 252.  After the events, they ate lunch which was catered by Martins IGA. Then, after all the teams were done eating, they were able to walk the trails. Even though Brownstown didn't win, the students still had fun, and had the opportunity to learn about nature and the wildlife around us.
