The Brownstown/St. Elmo Junior High Girls basketball team has had a successful season this year. The 8th grade girls winning to losing record so far is 15-0. They have won first place title at tournaments including the National Trail Conference, South Central Tournament, and Vandalia Tournament. The 7th grade winning to losing record is 8-6, and won the consolation championship at the National Trail Conference Tournament. Coach Josh Behrends has enjoyed this group of girls because this team works well together. The 8th grade girls have played together since their sixth grade year and he loves seeing the improvement each athlete has accomplished along the way. Coach Behrends looks forward to coaching and having fun with the girls everyday and watching them improve as a team and an individual.

Although every sports team has its own strengths and weaknesses, the Brownstown/St. Elmo Bomber's main strength is their work ethic. They are successful because they play one hundred percent the entire game and rely on each other as a team. Their weakness on the other hand, is their attitude when they miss a shot, or become discouraged if they are down by points. Coach Behrends said that even though these girls have strengths and weaknesses these girls have improved since the first practice of the season on August 31. Their improvement has been growing together as a team and learning the essential skills on how to be a successful team and basketball player. Assistant Coach Randy Sasse sees the 7th grade team improving in basketball knowledge and skills, and recognizes how the 8th graders have improved by playing together.

The Altamont Wildcats are a big rival to the Brownstown/St. Elmo Bombers. Coach Behrends and Coach Sasse are proud of how these girls came out on top with a winning score of 26-21. Coach Behrends said that our team worked very well together and would not give up anything, but kept pressing on; this team refuses to lose. They expect to see Altamont in the Regional matchup and play with this same pressure passion and enthusiasm again.

Coach Behrends, along with Coach Sasse, expect the 8th grade team to win the championship title of Regionals and Sectionals and to be state bound. Both the 7th and 8th grade team have been successful and we are very anxious to see how the rest of their season plays out. The coaches ask for the community to come out and support these girls for the rest of the season. The Brownstown and St. Elmo students, faculty, families and friends wish the best of luck to the remaining of the girls season.
