SEB Junior High Girls Softball practice started off with a bang on July 29th, and they have been going strong fives days a week since. Most of the girls participated in a league this summer through the schools. At practices the girls have been preparing for the season by working on their defensive skills. "It doesn't matter how many runs you score if you can't stop the ball when it's hit to you", said Coach Megan Burrus. Learning the basics is important to remember, especially when playing Altamont which is one of the big rivals the girls are looking forward to. The season is underway and looking bright for the Junior High Eagles softball team, especially with the help of their experienced coaches.
Megan Burrus's inspiration to become a coach stemmed from her four year career at Altamont High, where she was an All-Conference athlete. From there she extended her softball path on to Lakeland College where her love of the game inspired her to become the coach she is today. She is assisted by Dana Pasley who also played at Altamont. She started all four years as a pitcher, and was named an All-Conference player in high school as well, then she went on to play basketball at Rend Lake College.
The team’s youth and inexperience is only a small comparison to their strengths, according to Coach Burrus. The girls have a lot of speed; they have no trouble getting around the bases. Hard work pays off, and this group of girls put forth 100% everyday. As long as the returning eighth graders are leading the team with their experienced skills, the Eagles are surely headed for victory. The girls have been working with only the best to get into game mode.Furthermore, the season is looking good for the SEB Junior High Softball team. Check the team roster and schedule on the athletics tab, go see a game, and root on your local team. Good luck to you girls on the rest of your season.
