Local First National Bank of Brownstown President, Jerry Reed, visited BHS seniors last week to enlighten the students of the importance of community banks. The CBAI Foundation for Community Banking offers sixteen scholarships to top Illinois high-school seniors statewide every year. Last season, BHS senior Katie Kroll took second place in the Sangamon region, bringing with it a $500 scholarship. First place winners in each of the sixteen regions could win $1,000 for four consecutive years. This guest presentation aligned with an assignment all English IV students will complete for Mr. Travis Redden. He is excited to see his students write often for local and national scholarships as part of his college and career portfolio writing unit. He would also like to thank BHS guidance counselor Gail Hardiek for all her hard work in bringing guest speakers and many scholarship opportunities to our students. You can view many of the possible scholarships for seniors here http://www.bcusd201.com/Home/guidance.
