BSE JH Girls Basketball

BSE Jr. High Girls Basketball is wrapping  their regular season with new coach Josh Behrends and returning assistant Randy Sasse. They had their girls give 110% every day during practice this season and are geared up for 7th grade IESA Regionals November 23rd and 8th grade IESA Regionals in early December.  The girls improved on their game from last season by adding a couple major strengths in their defense and quickness.  If you have a defensive-minded basketball team then you're going to win games because they are holding other opponents to fewer points.  So when you have quickness and defence you can get more steals which leads to more fast break points with a lot of girls that love to run and push the ball up the court.

There is one weakness that both coaches do not like to have and that is the depth of their team with only seven 8th graders.  As a coach you want a full bench so you can substitute your tired players out more and keep them moving at the same pace the whole game.

In order to win games you need to have captains that have the will to win, who are outspoken, and have good leadership skills.  The 7th grade leaders are Audrey Reynolds and Carly Feltner. Dana Shelton and Makenzie Parkison are the 8th grade team captains.  To these coaches every game is an important one where they expect every girl to give their all. The 8th grade girls went to the NTC tournament on October 23rd and came away with a third place victory.  Now, once again the team is  looking forward to the regional tournament and another trip to state.

Both coaches have experience on the court, as both were high school players. Behrends and Sasse are excited to take the team to the next level once again.  Sasse knows what it takes to get to state so he wants to be there to coach and push them for back-to-back years.  Coach Behrends and the girls want to reach state to represent their school and feel the excitement of another state tournament.
