Brownstown Welcomes New Music Teacher

Brownstown Jr/Sr High School hired a new music teacher for the 2014-2015 school year.  Mr. Brough will be teaching band and choir at the elementary and high school levels, teaching private lessons, while also supervising the online spanish class.

Mr. Brough grew up in Naperville, a suburb of Chicago, but has since lived in Champaign and Bourbonnais, Illinois.  He attended college at the University of Illinois in Champaign/Urbana, but currently lives in Altamont.

Mr. Brough cannot wait to share his passion for music with all of the students at BHS. “I want my students to have a similar experience and love of music as I had when I was a student” says Mr. Brough. Mr. Brough’s primary instruments include the clarinet and the saxophone, which he learned to play in fourth and seventh grade, but he can play all of the instruments found in band and orchestra.  His favorite band is a group by the name of Sister Hazel, and his favorite music genres include jazz, bluegrass, and rock/classic rock.

The students at BHS seem very excited to spend the year with him. Mr. Brough has one final message to impart to us.  “I would just like to add how excited I am to be teaching here in Brownstown and how many awesome things are happening here on a daily basis. I would like to encourage any students who are reading this that are interested in getting more involved in music (whether through band, choir, or at home) to come see me down in the band room! No matter what experience you may (or may not!) have in music, it's never too late to get started with playing an instrument or learning to sing!”
