BHS Mock Election 2016

posted Nov 10, 2016, 7:35 AM by Travis Redden
The presidential election is held every four years on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November.  In the process of educating students on our voting rights Mr. Toby Harms holds a mock election for the Brownstown students for every Presidential Election.  Mr. Harms’ Civics students participated in the civic process by being mock election judges, conducting polling, checking ID’s of voters, and assisting in the tallying.  Students came into Mr. Harms’ room throughout the day and filled out ballots in makeshift voting booths.  By the end of the day the student’s votes were tallied and announced to the school.  The mock election for Brownstown Jr/Sr High students was held on November 8, 2016, which made the voting seem more real, because it was on the actual day of the election.  The results ended with Trump winning with 84% and Clinton with 11%. The mock election was a good way to teach students about exercising their constitutional rights.
