At Brownstown Elementary School, reading is a big deal among the students. The more literature they read, the more rewards and incentives they can receive. For months now, children have been reading from a list of awarded novels. Monarch books are for grades 1-3, and Bluestem books are for grades 3-6. The authors honored on these lists have been carefully selected by the Illinois School Library Media Association.

On Tuesday, February 25th, students that read and passed a test on at least four books from their list were invited to vote for their favorite novel. The Monarch winner was Experiments That Failed, with The One and Only Stuey Lewis coming in second. The Bluestem finalist was Number The Stars, followed by Cheesie Mack is Not a Genius or Anything. The SCC provided milk and donuts to further congratulate the students, and to encourage them to keep reading in the future.
