Summer vacation is over and students are excited about seeing all of their friends, meeting their teachers, and willing to take on what the school year will bring. Going back to school isn't just an adjustment for the students, but for the parents as well. Brownstown Elementary School has invited the students and their parents to Back To School Night held on Tuesday, August 25th. Back To School Night is a program where parents can visit classrooms, go over homework and discipline policies with the teachers, and learn new techniques for math and reading programs. The program begins at 6:30 pm in the elementary cafeteria, followed by two classroom sessions beginning at 7:00 and 7:20 pm. After the program, there will be refreshments in the cafeteria! The staff hopes that you would come out to support BES and take this opportunity to meet the teachers and view the school.
BES Principal, Mrs. Reeter, looks forward to meeting the new students, and seeing familiar faces each year. This year the elementary, grades K-6, have 190 students and 27 pre-schoolers. The elementary also gained a new teacher this year with Jordyn Sussenbach from Greenville, Illinois. This is her first teaching position and she is currently teaching 4th-6th grade math and social studies. Gaining a new teacher isn't the only big change at Brownstown Elementary School, but they also added a new online math program for grades 4-6 called IXL. In IXL, students will be able to practice mathematical criteria they are learning in the classroom, and gain assistance on reaching mastery standards. The program overall will be beneficial for students working towards higher academic levels, while using new learning strategies to reach those goals.
Mrs. Reeter was a previous 4th grade teacher for many years and learned she that she enjoyed working with all age groups during that time. Her tenure as a classroom teacher and love for students greatly influenced her decision to become the principal at BES. She loves that she can make a difference in the student body as a whole, instead of just in one classroom setting. Mrs. Reeter also enjoys working with her hard-working staff. They all have high expectations as they work together as a team and a family. These traits make this staff very successful and make for a great work environment. Now that school is back in session and the students are ready to learn, we are ready for a successful school year. Good luck to the Brownstown school board, faculty, and students!
