On Saturday September, 16th, the Brownstown/St.Elmo sports boosters had the annual fish fry. The fish fry was held in the Brownstown Elementary school cafeteria. The sports boosters served 522 people, which is an increase from last year. Last year's total for the 2016 fish fry was 503. This is the biggest fundraiser for the sports boosters and the money that is raised each year helps pay for new uniforms for the athletic program. The fish fry was catered by Country Rhodes. The sports boosters served: Fried Fish, Chicken, Popcorn Shrimp, Steak Fries, Cole Slaw, Applesauce, and Potato Salad.
We have Amy Pruett, Jacy Schaub, and Deb Philpot to thank for putting the fish fry all together as well as lots of help from parents, coaches, athletes, and administrators. The girls basketball and volleyball teams helped during the fish fry with refilling drinks, refilling the buffet counter, and other odd jobs. Our clean up crew consisted of Cameron Callaway, Lane Himes, Bryton Pruett, and Jacob Baron. It took six months in advance to coordinate all of the food. One month prior to the fish fry, to get volunteers and raffle donations. Some of the people coordinating the sports boosters had started thawing and breading fish at two in the afternoon. This year we made $3,500.00 in profit after the cost of the catering this includes the money from the tickets to get into the fish fry, raffle, 50/50, and dessert donations. Jacy Schaub says that the best part about the fish fry is seeing both of the communities come together to support the Brownstown/St.Elmo athletes. Jacy also wants to say thank you to everyone for supporting our sports boosters and for another great year at the fish fry. It was greatly appreciated. Thank you for supporting our sports boosters.
