BSE HS Track and Field

The 2017 BSE Track & Field program is off to a great start this year! This track season there are three girls: Elissa Baron, Sharley Gaston and Claire Wilhour and five boys: Jacob Baron, Justin Karnes, Caleb Lamar, Clay Miller, and Seth Powell. The team is coached by Mr. Travis Redden.

Throwers this season are Elissa Baron, Sharley Gaston, Jacob Baron, and Clay Miller, who all throw both shot-put and discus. Claire Wilhour is a returning 400-meter dash state champion as an 8th grader and is pushing as a freshman to qualify for state finals in several events. Claire has already broken two school records: 110 hurdles in 16.68 seconds and the 300 hurdle record in 48.6 seconds. The boys team is striving to beat several school records, including the 4x800 relay, 800-meter run, and the 200-meter dash. Justin Karnes, Caleb Lamar, Clay Miller, and Seth Powell have already accomplished beating the 4x800 relay with a time of 9 minutes and 57 seconds. Mr. Travis Redden stated, “Seth Powell is an important element of the relay and is looking to break the 200-meter dash record as well.” Caleb Lamar has been running well in the 1600 meter run. Justin Karnes is close to beating the 800-meter record and Clay Miller is a very strong discus thrower.

We would like to wish the track team good luck on the rest of the season and also congratulate those on their accomplishments thus far. The season is already at the halfway point and sectional meets are fast approaching. The girls will compete at sectionals on Thursday, May 11th and the boys on Thursday May 18th.  Good luck!
